The Eliot School is a public institution in Boston’s historic North End neighborhood — where Paul Revere began his famous ride. The Eliot School is one of the top-rated public schools in all of Boston. Considering that Boston is said to be the academic hub of America, this is no small feat. The Eliot is Boston’s oldest continuously run school. It began as the North Writing School in 1713 and officially became the John Eliot School in 1790. Several historically famous Bostonians attended this school, such as American patriots Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. Existing within the rich historical and cultural context of the North End, the Eliot draws upon its neighborhood to deliver an integrative and engaging education. The school takes full advantage of its urban location by partnering with a long list of community organizations, providing students with many educational resources and special programs. Some of these programs concentrate on the fine arts; others on recreation, music and Italian, to name just a few. The Eliot consists of three separate schools in three different North End locations: the Lower School on Charter Street for kindergarten and first grade, the Intermediate School on Salem Street for grades two to four, and the Upper School on Commercial Street for grades five to eight. In total, the Eliot serves 750 – 800 students a year.

It has been a while since I left the Eliot, but it was the best education years of my life. All the teachers were enthusiastic and truly cared about students. I heard some people complain about the admin, but there is not much in my experience with dealing with the admin. The students were so nice and it was great how the majority of my friends at the Eliot lived within close distance. I really hope for the best for this school, it gave me so much and I hope this team keeps it up

Brand new building. Great teachers and Principal. Kids feel safe and challenged. Lot of enrichment programs (science, Italian, robotics, theater...). A great community downtown.
