Christa McAuliffe Intermediate School 187 in Dyker Heights, New York, has three academics focusing on science, business and law, and arts and humanities. The public school at 1171 65th St. was the site of a primary school in the 1920s. In 1994, the school became an intermediate school teaching sixth through eighth grade students. It was named in honor of New Hampshire teacher Christa McAuliffe, who died in 1986 when the space shuttle Challenger was destroyed in flight. The school’s scientific research academy offers special classes in sports medicine and biotechnology. The business and law academy has special classes in green business and health. The arts and humanities academy has special classes in arts and music. All the academies provide field trips and hands-on learning opportunities. There are many opportunities to be active on campus and engage with others. For example, one student group introduces students to drone flying, 3D printing and Lego robotics. Athletics include basketball and volleyball teams.

This is the best middle school in Brooklyn. Just who wouldn't want to be here? I was in ASR academy, this school has lots of friends that you can make. Grades are high and people in this school work hard to get good grades and make friends. Close to the subway and people can walk together to school.

Overall I received a good education, but I feel like the workload is way too much for middle school kids. I was constantly stressed, and high school actually ended up being way easier.

I am currently a rising 7th grader, which means I will be a senior in middle school this year (8th grade), and I have to say this school has probably given me the best time of my life. I have so many friends in other schools. These schools include mark twain, dyker, and the NEST. After hearing their...

Intermediate School 187 was a very interesting experience for me. Its abilities to differentiate itself from other middle schools are definitely its most prominent features yet to match its students' strengths in academics. The Christa McAuliffe Intermediate School 187 has 3 academies where each of t...

There are so many substitutes in school without enough experienced full time teachers. And many ICT classrooms ( study with IEP students) and IEP aces programs . The academic is no rigor anymore, it’s just a regular middle school.
