Harter Elementary School serves about 400 students annually in kindergarten through third grade. Located in the Harter Heights neighborhood on Canton's northwest side, it is one of six primary schools operated by the Canton City School District, one of the largest in the state. Originally opened in 1926, Harter moved into a bright, spacious new building in 2006. Built at a cost of $7.6 million on the site of the former Harter Elementary, it was part of the district’s historic Design for the Future initiative, which passed in 1999 and rebuilt or renovated every school building in Canton. As an elementary school, Harter focuses on literacy and number sense, with the goal of helping students build confidence and develop a foundation for success in intermediate school and beyond. As students move from kindergarten into the early grades, teachers at Harter seek to create an individualized learning pathway for every child. In addition to receiving instruction in the early childhood core subjects, students also have the opportunity to participate in art, music, physical education, digital learning, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Fun and interesting projects teach Harter Elementary students how to be creative problem-solvers.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

It is better than you average city school. I sense that staff does not TRULY want parents that involved in the learning process.
