Within the Ashley Park neighborhood, Movement School operates two of its tuition-free charter schools, Freedom Elementary and Freedom Middle. The schools are funded through a private foundation initiated by Charlotte-based Movement Mortgage, with a goal of bringing an exceptional education in state-of-the-art facilities to students in underserved areas. Freedom Elementary opened in 2017, and the middle school opened in 2021. Together, they serve approximately 600 students, the majority of whom are from low-income households. Movement Charter Schools delivers its curriculum via co-teaching teams who strive to engage students in small groups targeted to their needs. Movement School students, known as the Mavericks, receive teaching on behavior, self-control, bullying and other social concepts to help ensure a holistic education. With the intent to prevent any student from ever feeling left out, Movement students all wear a standardized school uniform. Enrollment is available online for either Freedom Elementary or Middle school; however, the schools currently have a wait list of several hundred students.
