Named after the first female superintendent of Chicago Public Schools (CPS), Ella Flagg Young School celebrates achievement and outstanding community involvement. Building academic competency through a strong emphasis on literacy, Ella Flagg Young School’s stated mission is to develop students into "independent readers and writers, critical thinkers and decision-makers." Promoting a learning environment that encourages excellence, Ella Flagg Young School participates in CPS' Comprehensive Gifted Program. Students demonstrating scholastic aptitude are placed into an accelerated classroom experience that advances students' instruction by up to one year. Ella Flagg's Panthers fly their black and white school colors proudly playing basketball, flag football, volleyball or soccer, and students can participate in a variety of after-school activities such as choir, dance, drama, theater, technology club and fashion shows to channel their talents. Striving to meet students' social, scholastic and emotional needs, Ella Flagg Young School provides supplemental educational services including tutoring, mentoring and bilingual support. Ella Flagg Young School remains a neighborhood school dedicated to graduating gifted, committed and college-ready students.

The staff is very lazy!!!! Terrible school to send your kids to. The staff talks to you like your'e a kid. Very unprofessional. This school needs improvements & soon!!!
