Goethe Elementary at 2236 N Rockwell St. is part of the Chicago Public School system in Logan Square and serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. A recipient of the 2021 Thrive Award, Goethe Elementary is recognized for successfully supporting college readiness, better test scores and learning outcomes among its students.
31 percent of Goethe Elementary students are proficient in reading and 28 percent test at or above math proficiency levels. Over 120 years old, Goethe enrolls 767 students who enjoy an average student-to-teacher ratio of 16-to-1.
Goethe employs 30 full-time teachers and maintains an athletic program that includes basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, cross country and flag football. Disciplines like art, music, technology and AP math are administered by seven specially trained instructors.
In addition to core classes in reading, science, computer technology and math, Goethe Elementary promotes a vibrant culture of social and emotional development. Students are taught to uplift and encourage fellow classmates with "kind words and deeds" and become "bucket fillers" for others.
Goethe’s staff believe smiles and selfless gestures impact the surrounding community positively, and Goethe Elementary is dedicated to shaping the children of Logan Square into thoughtful, happy and educated young adults.
