Josephinum Academy of The Sacred Heart is an all-girls Catholic high school run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. Serving students in Grades 9-12, the academy takes a world-class approach to academic excellence, emphasizing holistic, moral and spiritual development. With 150 enrolled students hailing from over 40 zip codes in the Chicago area, Josephinum Academy prides itself on small class sizes and its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
Nicknamed "The Jo," the school was opened in 1890 by the Sisters of Christian Charity. The city's longest-standing all-girls high school, the academy transferred to the Sacred Heart Association in 1911. The school boasts a variety of teaching strategies that encourage students to analyze the world around them critically. Josephinum Academy provides several fine and performing arts programs in addition to rigorous academic subjects. The school's athletic program, known as the Josephinum Cougars, includes volleyball, cross country, basketball and soccer. Activities at the academy include Model UN, hip hop dance club, baking club, badminton club, newspaper and more.

The teachers are very understanding and helpful and thoughtful of our time. The "Jo" is very diverse and accepting of girls from different backgrounds. It offers many AP courses and overall a very well-rounded way of learning. I'm so happy to be part of such a community!

What I liked about the JO is the teacher, student ratio, the faculty, the environment, academics, the learning at the Jo is awesome. I am a freshman in college now, and I realize now, my education at the Jo, prepared me for this and future endeavors.

Josephinum is a school unlike any other. It s a place where a girl can come to learn without holding back because of male distractions. The teachers really care about how we learn and where we are. Though unsure of the school at first, I came to love it and can t imagine being anywhere else.
