James Monroe's impressive stone facade reflects the school's unique presence in the community as a cluster magnet school for world languages. Enrolling 740 students who enjoy an average class size of 25 and an average teacher-to-student ratio of 12-to-1, every student at James Monroe is expected to speak, listen to and write Spanish. Students also study Spanish literature and learn about the music and holiday traditions of Latin countries. In total, James Monroe Elementary supports three Magnet programs in Spanish, Art and Blended Needs. James Monroe Elementary is home to an engaging mix of extracurricular opportunities. Participation in student orchestra, band, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, computer coding, Opera for All and the STEM Lab provide students with a vibrant culture of enrichment. Athletic programs supported include basketball, softball, cross country, soccer, track and field and volleyball The school's motto: "Go Bigger, Go Further: Together," echoes Monroe Elementary School's mission to unite the culturally diverse neighborhood of Logan Square. Through education and inclusion, James Monroe Elementary teaches students the value of both individual and shared successes.

what I liked about James Monroe elementary school, I liked the teachers, the sports they have. Also the academic classes they have to offer. They also have a great schedule to maintain the student on track and get them prepared for high school.

James Monroe Elementary School has a great Parent-Mentor Program that assists teachers in the classrooms. This program is beneficial to the children as well because the parents are positive role-models for students during class. The staff, parents and students are a community that works very well to...

This school is great. I've been here since pre-k and will hopefully stay until 8th grade. The teachers are great and the help we get here couldn't be better!
