Albany Park’s North River Elementary School is located on a quiet one-way street, nestled between low-rise residences and a church that dates back to 1911.
The school, which serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade, is one of the smaller public schools in the area but is committed to making a big impact by teaching its 250 students to abide by four core values: collaboration, courage, character and commitment. Together, these key tenets help foster an environment of self-empowerment and community, where students are better equipped to achieve their personal and academic goals.
North River’s commitment to the surrounding community extends beyond the school day, thanks to the Chicago Public Schools’ Community Schools Initiative. This program transforms select schools throughout the city into community hubs before and after school, on weekends and during summer vacation. As a participating member, North River offers academic and recreational classes to students, as well as workshops and resources for parents. The initiative’s ultimate goal is to help students excel by keeping them engaged outside of the classroom and combating negative environmental factors that can lead to student underachievement.

Teachers are okay some better than others. Principal doesn't really do what is supposed to be done by a principal. He downplays problems with bullying and gets offensive when you want a meeting with the other child who is bullying yours parents.

It's a really small school but it has a lot of heart. Your kids will be with the same classmates creating really close-knit bonds and the teachers can really have one on one time with their students since there aren't that many, to begin with.
