Although Theodore Roosevelt High School is located in the Albany Park neighborhood, potential students across Chicago apply to become a Rough Rider. They’re drawn to Roosevelt High by the school’s four highly-regarded academic programs: the Career and Technical Education Program, Scholars Program, Arts Program and Dual-Language Program. Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), a military-prep program that instills students with a strong sense of character and discipline, is also offered at Roosevelt High. Half of all students here will graduate with college credits or continue on the path to a technical career certification. In 2020, graduates were awarded nearly $6 million in scholarships, including full-rides to the University of Chicago, Washington University and Northwestern University. Athletic-minded students can try out for a variety of seasonal sports, including the seven-time conference champion varsity football team or the two-time conference champion girls varsity volleyball team. In the 100 years since Roosevelt High opened its doors, many notable alumni have roamed its halls. Most famous of those may be Nelson Algren, the beloved Chicago author whose National Book Award-winning novel, “The Man with the Golden Arm,” cemented his status as one of the great American novelists.

My current experience at Theodore Roosevelt High School is honestly Ok, teachers are really good but some teachers are not as good as some other teachers. I'd like to see the school being less neglected as the school is kind of falling apart little by little. The students are mostly good, the community around this school is nice and there are good parts of this neighborhood that bring this school together.

I came to Roosevelt High School as a refugee and started to learn new languages I was nervous about it and didn't understand what they were telling me, but with time it looked very helpful and the teachers were helpful and nice to all students

The school has several good programs and resources the problem is you need to find a way to find them or be acquainted with the people who provide them. The academics and diversity could be better but I feel as though the school is slowly getting there. There are many bad and good things about the school but to get the best of your experience at Roosevelt I find that being involved in sports and clubs helps a lot by taking higher-level courses and having the right teachers.
