Rated as one of the top public elementary schools in Missouri, Ralph M. Captain Elementary embodies the district’s core values of excellence, trust, inclusiveness, innovation and accountability.
Nestled in the quiet DeMun neighborhood, the school is within walking distance for many of the more than 300 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Small class sizes provide a rich and nurturing space to build a sense of community and a culture of creative, critical thinking that fosters independence.
Faculty regularly collaborate with each other to create learning experiences that meet the school’s rigorous academic culture. Educators also work with specialists on an ongoing basis to integrate technology, research and enrichment into daily education.
Under the educator’s direction, children learn that they can achieve success with hard work and patience. Activity is also a focus, as children are encouraged to play on the extensive dedicated playground and paved athletic court for soccer, basketball and four square.
Ralph M. Captain was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2015, a designation reserved for the top schools in the nation.

The most invested teachers I've ever worked with. I say "work with" because the teachers truly invested in the students and their families and keep open lines of communication so we know early if there are any issues that we need to spend extra time with our child.

Incredible school. Our two sons went last year and loved it. The level they're teaching on is crazy high. Our daughter just started this year and we feel blessed to be a part of this school. We moved from across the country, found this school, THEN shopped for a house within walking distance.

Dr. Doherty is a wonderful principal who acts as a crossing guard in the morning to welcome students and appears to be the last person to leave the building after events such as International Night.
