Renamed after the first Black woman to be elected to Congress from Ohio, Stephanie Tubbs Jones School is a pre-K through eighth-grade public school. The school strives to mold and shape its students to become college ready before they start high school. The school aids in career readiness through curriculums that are based on research and taught in classrooms enriched with today’s technology. Parents are active just as much in this school as their children are with weekly engagement meetings through coffee clubs and events taking place each month. Students are encouraged to go beyond the classroom, with extracurricular activities such as chess club, student council and sports. Both boys’ and girls’ basketball and volleyball are cheered on by the school’s cheerleaders, high steppers and flag girls. CARE is a program offered at this school that utilizes theatre techniques to develop empathy amongst students. The program includes lessons from social and emotional learning theories, trauma care and literacy learning. Children come first at Stephanie Tubbs Jones School. The school serves as a place of pride for Forest Hills residents.
