GreatSchools Rating

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I really like that the teachers are very nice and willing to help you at any time. Since I began school, the counselors have been different every few months. I would like to see a permanent counselor there to help the students.

While I have met many great teachers here, they could definitely improve their staff. This is a fault of the Raleigh County Board of Education. Myself, as well as others, graduated feeling unprepared for life after high school. Many teachers don't put in the effort into their work. I see they have been making staff changes and this makes me happy. I hope they are improving.

I went to Independence High School and graduated in 2016. I really never had a bad teacher there and some teachers honestly were the best out there. Like Mr. Goode who is now retired and Mr. Miller who I believe is still teaching there. The staff is wonderful besides the bathrooms which were not there fault it was always clean and we had a very actively involved with the student's principle in Mr. Henry.

The school is poorly staffed with teachers that are only there for a paycheck. The food is bad, the discipline is always poor, and bullying is a constant

I love my school and have a lot of pride in it. The teachers are awesome, the extracurricular activities are over flowing in vibrance and enjoyment, and everyone has a part in the sports. We have cookouts with free food during homecoming, the best prom around, and something interesting for all of us...
