The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Powell county high school is a very small school. I like that it was small because it was easier to learn in that environment. One thing I wish we had was a school counselor. Our school "counselor" is our principal. She has so much to do that it's hard to find time to sit down and talk with her.

Very good ag department, All the teachers truly want the best for the students. The clubs are very diverse, also there is a very good woods shop to help the students who are more hands on. The ag department has a great school farm to advance students knowledge on a farm. There is a great greenhouse attached to the ag building to help kids find there green thumb.

During my short four years at Powell County High School I have had very few bad times! I love all of my teachers, and feel as if their are always people there for me! I would definitely go back just to visit!

This school is horrible and my sister ended up doing online school after her sophomore year because she was not getting a good education from the school. Luckily my family moved so that I didn’t have to go to Powell County High School

Good school if; 1 you're rich, 2 you're well connected in the town, or 3 your child is very good in sports. If your child is failing or has learning difficulties they simply tell the student to just drop out and try for a GED.
