This high school is very very small. The academics are extremely easy or else many students wouldn't graduate. My class had a 50% dropout rate from freshman to senior year. There are few AP/Dual Credit course offerings. There is zero diversity and racism runs rampant with no consequences. The town is extremely conservative and the school pushes that as well.

The teachers are great and very involved. They want students to succeed. There is not, however, a lot of ap classes or really any higher level classes avaliable. Like most highschools, it is very clique-ish. Overall the learning environment is good.

Powell County has been a joy for me over the past four years. I have been through so many hardtime but this school has provided support. It makes life so much easier everyday for me and allows me to be prepared for the upcoming years in my life. I hate school most the time and showing up everyday is terrible but my day gets better as we go through as the teachers and staff here are amazing.

This school is horrible and my sister ended up doing online school after her sophomore year because she was not getting a good education from the school. Luckily my family moved so that I didn’t have to go to Powell County High School

Good school if; 1 you're rich, 2 you're well connected in the town, or 3 your child is very good in sports. If your child is failing or has learning difficulties they simply tell the student to just drop out and try for a GED.
