Denver Justice High School, a charter school in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, has a mission of empowering its students to rise from the ordinary to achieve the impossible. The school, which opened in 2009, has an approximate enrollment of more than 100 students and class sizes are small, ensuring relationship-building opportunities between teachers and students and making it easier to achieve the Denver Justice High School mission — to provide a college-preparatory education for all students. Designed for students whose lives don’t fit with traditional school schedules and graduation timetables, Denver Justice High School divides the year into four quarters, with 70 minutes of instruction on every subject. Denver Justice High School students can earn 120 credits in one school year, as opposed to 60 credits at a traditional school. This allows for students to graduate in two years rather than four years. The school offers a variety of electives such as art, photography, digital design, karate, yoga and cooking, and students can also earn elective credits for work hours. Billing itself as the school of second chances, Denver Justice High School strives to turn all students into “youth of promise.”
