The Marie L. Greenwood Academy, located at 5130 Durham Ct., is open to students from pre-kindergarten to the eighth grade. Here the dedicated teachers and staff seek to close the historic achievement gap for area students with programs like Each One Teach One. This program promotes literacy while teaching practical life skills like gardening and finances. The school also offers instruction in Spanish and English through the fifth grade, and STEAM and Gifted and Talented programs.
The school was named for Marie L. Greenwood, an innovative and determined educator who began her career at Whittier Elementary School in the 1930s. Students make her personal motto, “Reach for the stars, and at least you’ll hit the treetops,” their own.
Marie L. Greenwood Academy encourages active community participation. Volunteers with life-skills are encouraged to apply to pass these skills onto students. The school boasts a full slate of resources for parents, including educational websites to encourage engagement in their student’s education.
Teachers and staff are carefully selected, and with a teacher to student ration of 15:1, they have the capacity to give focused attention to students. A support staff including a psychologist, social worker, and speech and language specialist act together to meet student’s needs. Through their combined efforts, the Marie L. Greenwood Academy offers an exceptional community and a fully rounded education to Montbello area students.

I am a student at Greenwood and I love it! Greewnwood is a school with caring teachers who support you everfy step of the way. We are able to do art, music, drama, dance and computers. I love our media center. The school has lots of before and after school sport and other really neat programs.
