Moore Elementary School first opened its doors in 1950 and has served students of the Beaverdale area and of northwest Des Moines for more than 50 years. In 2007, declining enrollment cause Moore Elementary School to close. The building then served as a place where other schools could relocate while main buildings were under renovation. Moore Elementary School reopened in 2015 in a renovated facility with modern classrooms and technology, as well as a new gymnasium and playground. Moore Elementary School enrolls about 300 kindergarten through fifth grade students and employs about 30 full-time teachers and faculty members. As an International Baccalaureate World School, teachers use and inquiry-based teaching approach. Music, art, physical education and special education are also offered. Parents can easily access information like recommended school supplies, lunch menus, school-related events and anything else they need to know through Moore Elementary School's website.
