Home of the Eagles, Monte Vista Elementary School sits near the southern border of Mountain View. When students are on campus, they have excellent views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Monte Vista is unique because it has co-principals that run the kindergarten through eighth grade school, an arrangement that works well as Monte Vista is an award-winning institution with high state test scores in math and English language acquisition. It was listed as a top public school in Los Angeles County in 2019 in a report compiled by the University of Southern California. The school also received a gold award in the HealthierUS School Challenge sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Monte Vista provides students with healthy food choices and regular physical fitness activities. School administrators stress parental involvement and organize several events throughout the school year in order to promote a tight-knit community. The school's facilities feature a shaded playground area near the entrance and at the back of the school. There are also paved courts and fields for various sports and outdoor activities.
