As a pillar of the Firestone Park community for over 100 years, Firestone Park Elementary was named after the neighboring park built by rubber pioneer Harvey Firestone. The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company originally owned the land and deeded it to the city of Akron in 1916 for the development of a school. Firestone often visited the school throughout his life and regularly donated to it.
The school serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade as one of two public elementary schools in Akron’s Firestone Park neighborhood. Its campus is a point of pride for students and faculty. Located across the street from the historic Firestone Park, students can spend time learning in the neighboring library and community center in addition to their historic 1917 school building.
Firestone Park Elementary readies its students for success through individual academic improvement programs, performing arts, speech therapy, special education programs, and music and art therapy. It also offers a choir for advanced vocal instruction.
While the school ranks in the bottom 20% of the state’s performance index and has a higher-than-average student-teacher ratio, it offers a highly experienced faculty. The teachers at Firestone Park Elementary typically have 18 years of experience, and 78% hold a master’s degree.
