The French-American School of Chicago is a private school in Lincoln Park that serves kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school is physically housed within the Lincoln Park Elementary School and the Lincoln Park High School.
The school features a bilingual and bicultural education, with middle school and high school curriculum approved by France’s National Center for Distance Education. Students generally obtain their French Baccalaureate, which is similar to a high school diploma in the United States.
Depending on the class, instruction is given in either English or French. The school hopes students benefit from the variation and diversity of language and culture. Faculty from Lincoln Park Elementary School and Lincoln Park High School work closely with their colleagues from the French-American School of Chicago to coordinate programs for students and to arrange class schedules. Classes for students at the French-American School of Chicago start one hour earlier than those of other students in the schools.
Admission is based on an interview between the prospective students and their parents or guardians and the school’s director to assess proficiency in French. If students are transferring from a different school, previous report cards and student assessments will be requested. Admission will also be conditional on seats available in the desired grade level.
Kindergarten through eighth students must reside within the boundaries for Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Students in high school do not have geographical boundaries, as Lincoln Park High School does not have a geographical boundary requirement.
