SMART Academy is a nonprofit charter school founded in 2018, serving grades K-4. Located in Garfield Heights, the 124 students at SMART follow the school motto: “change our classroom, change our community.”
SMART Academy Owls learn using a literacy-focused curriculum in which reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking are the foundational skills for life-long learning. At SMART Academy, literacy extends beyond the ability to read; it means interpreting and using language to learn, think and communicate effectively. SMART’s leaders, teachers and staff believe this foundation helps students build fulfilling lives as productive community members, employees and business owners.
SMART Academy also prioritizes the whole child’s development by helping students grow academically and emotionally. Teachers and staff work to understand the strengths and needs of each unique child. In addition to a strong academic base, SMART Academy students can participate in extracurricular athletics, including track, soccer, basketball, wrestling and baseball. Partnerships across the region with organizations like the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park provide further enrichment for SMART Academy students. The community supports the school through annual school supply drives and giveaways, involving more than just students in the learning process.

SMART Academy is a true family atmosphere! They welcome each child in with open arms and puts them first in all aspects. They have staffed specialist in the classrooms for students who may need them which makes me extremely comfortable sending my child here. SMART Academy is the way to go!

My experience at this school has been great so far. I transferred my daughter at the beginning of the second quarter, and I instantly could tell the difference. Before she would get so frustrated doing her math homework, but that got better. I feel as though she is thriving here.

My child enjoys Smart Academy very much. She is always excited to tell me what she did in school on any given day and how her teacher helped her.
