Located at 1726 W. Berteau Ave., The German International School (GISC) is a private school that serves the educational needs of pre-kindergarten to eighth grade students in Lakeview with an International Baccalaureate degree. The German International School enrolls 170 students with a student-to-teacher ratio of 7-to-1 and prides itself on hosting 43 nationalities speaking over 30 different languages.
Founded in 2007, today the GISC offers students an academically challenging AP curriculum that prepares them for high school and beyond. Classes are taught in a dual language, German and English setting through the Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years (MYP) Programs of the IB.
All GISC preschool students become fluent in oral German and in kindergarten are reading in German and English. By the third grade, students' instruction includes both French and Spanish. GISC's subsequent curriculum emphasizes STEAM learning and students are required to grow their proficiency and interest in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.
Students' extracurricular achievements in music, theater and fine arts are featured in the school's annual winter performance and spring concert & art showcase every year.

Really lovely school educating children with a mix of American, German and international baccalaureate curriculum. My child is in a class with both german speakers and english speakers. I plan to send my child here year after year.

We have been at GISC for 12 years and continue to be impressed with the academic rigor, supportive administration, and sense of community at the school. My children have grown academically and socially and are well prepared for high school.
