GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Our school has a wide variety of extra curricular activities. Many students are involved in all that they can. Many of our students that are involved in both sports and drama club tend to dedicate approximately 13 hours of their day to being in the school on weekdays. Our students are committed to having fun and being involved in our school.

The athletics at this school are both good and bad. In terms of actual team performance and fan support, this school is bad. I personally have played many years of sports and have only had one winning season. School spirit is not the greatest either. The students here don't really participate in sports, most years there is barely a team. The athletic facilities themselves are very good though, some of the facilities are probably the best around this area. There is also only one class here that if for fitness, other than P.E. class.

Here at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton I feel very safe. Although there is not much security here, but there is the right amount based on the ares we live in. The school is equipped with cameras and door alarms. There is drug sweeps occasionally but they very rarely find anything during those sweeps. I have never witnessed anybody get seriously injured or get extreme threats. The health programs are alright but could be a little better I think.

I attended GMU all the way through school, and have gone on to teach and observe at many districts throughout NY and VT and have to say that for an small public high school in a very middle class area, they do a very good job. The school and the experience is what you make of it. Everyone is extreme...
