Home of the Hawks, Hanahan Elementary School is a public school within the Berkeley County School District. Approximately 1,100 children in pre-K through fifth grade attend the school at 4000 Mabeline Road. According to South Carolina’s School Report Card, a division of the South Carolina Department of Education, Hanahan Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization, volunteer programs and partnership with 30 business partners, faculty, staff and students are the reason for its outstanding success in terms of quality education. The school has received numerous state and national awards, including The Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award and a SMART Showcase school award. SMART Showcase schools are recognized for their use of educational solutions for professional development and community involvement, with a focus on innovation and technology for both students and teachers. In 2014, the school was the recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Award for consistently high student achievement. Programs such as Lunch Buddies, Motivated Young Men and Motivated Young Ladies are mentoring programs for at-risk students. The students have participated in community volunteer programs to plant gardens and provide vegetables to local charities and families in need. Teachers at Hanahan Middle have been recognized with both local and national awards. The curriculum includes arts through cultural experience and English as a Second Language program. Traditional education coupled with current innovation, a fully equipped computer lab and a dedicated faculty helps students achieve valuable life skills and an education geared toward higher learning.

My daughter excelled at this school. I miss them a lot. We had to move and her new school does not help students who learn differently or help with bullying. The teachers at hanahan let me know every time anything was off with her behavior and did everything they could to prevent bullying. They help...
