I've spent all twelve years, K-12, at South Side Area School district, and overall it has been a mixed bag. I don't regret going here, but there are certainly some things that really ought to change, and I'm not sure they ever will. For a small, poor, country school, South Side has really good teachers. I think my education in matters of literature in particular has been very good, and I find almost all of my teachers to be respectful, professional, and friendly people who genuinely care about their students. Also, I feel that we do okay with arts and science, although I haven't taken too many of those classes. However, there are a number of problems. I am less than confident in my school's administrators or in the future of the school, and I'm becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the school's culture. Sometimes I feel like the administrators are more concerned meeting bare minimum standards, and culturally South Side is not very welcoming. The few black students have it rough.

Overall I think it is a great small school with a very connected community. I have a surprising number of classes to pick from considering the school size as well. With many AP and Honors classes available, I am able to learn up to my full potential. There are even some CHS classes offered that I have taken. In my opinion, it's a great education and a fun high school experience.

I would say that my high school career at Southside has been largely positive with a productive learning environment, one-on-one faculty/student aid, and a variety of competitive academic and traditional sports. I would say that the worst part about my school is the decreasing class size, with my current class at just over 60 students.
