Formerly known as Houston Gardens Elementary, Ernest McGowen Sr Elementary School serves Trinity-Houston Gardens’ pre-K through fifth grade students. This Houston Independent School District campus educates about 400 students each year.
At McGowen, students can get plugged into a variety of learning experiences, including gifted and talented courses in English and Spanish, English-as-a-second-language (ESL), and other vital educational programming. McGowen Elementary also offers after-school activities like cheer, dance, photography and design.
McGowen is an active part of the Trinity-Houston Gardens community, hosting multiple events throughout the year that allow community members to connect on campus. Events like “Grandparents Luncheon” and “Pancakes with the Principal” offer opportunities for community members to get involved in local education.
The school is named after Ernest McGowen Sr, a US Army veteran, and clergyman. He started out as president of Kashmere High School’s Parent Teacher Association and eventually became a councilman for the City of Houston. Today, McGowen Elementary aims to uphold the legacy of its namesake. In 2020-2021, the campus was recognized by the district as a Gold Certified Family Friendly School, signifying the dedication of teachers, faculty and staff in partnering with Trinity-Houston Gardens community members to bolster student academic success.

This school is not worth your time, just look at the location it speaks for itself. The TAKS scores have been low at this school for a while so don't believe the hype, and the teachers academics are based around nothing but the TAKS. I know children that have come out of this school and do not know...
