Named to honor long-time Alief Independent School District custodian Viola Mahanay, Mahanay Elementary School opened its doors in 1973. Perhaps in a nod to Houston's official nickname of Space City, Mahanay is a place "Where every child is a star!"
Mahanay students shine brightly academically, with test scores above the Texas average; however, the brightest spot in the academic report is that all students are making exceptional academic progress.
Mahanay currently educates about 600 students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. Special programs include English as a Second Language, gifted education and the Center for Early Autism Intervention. For third and fourth grade students who need autism-related assistance, Mahanay offers a REACH program. REACH mainly supports students academically in general education classrooms but also provides specialized support.
Another bright spot on the Mahanay landscape is its relatively new SPARK Park. Like all SPARK parks, the one that resides at Mahanay features a playground, an outdoor learning center, art, picnic tables, trees and a walking trail. The school park is open for students during the day and community members when kids are out of class.

My son 1st year at a public school was a great experience. His 1st grade teacher is amazing. He love going to school and learning. He talked about how nice she is and different compare to the other teachers.

My first child to go to school is my daughter. My daughter attend kindergarten at mahanay it was very different the her teacher was very nice and she kept me updated on the status of my child growth. When I go in all the ladies in the front office is always so helpful and nice. And now is going back...

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SCHOOL FOR BEGINNERS..PRE SCHOOL, PRE K MY SON IS ATTENDING THE PRE SCHOOL EVERY CARE AND ATTENTION IS BEING GIVEN ..I APPRECIATE THE DYNAMIC PRINCIPAL .. AND NICE TEACHERS. ALSO THE CLEAN AND NEAT PREMISES.
