Intermediate School 93 Ridgewood is located at 66-56 Forest Ave, Queens, NY. The public middle school serves children in the Ridgewood neighborhood in grades sixth through eighth. The school is located near Queens Public Library.
I.S. 93 is celebrating more than 100 years in service. The school opened its doors in 1917 on what used to be a local apple orchard and served 1100 students in grades one through eight. There were only 35 graduates and it' the first year. In 1961, the school changed from an elementary school into a middle school only serving grades seven, eight, and nine. The same year, the school added more facilities on campus, with a new cafeteria, music room, band room, and gymnasium. By 1998, I.S. 93 school enrollment grew to 1600 students, and a three-story new wing was built to accommodate the growing school.
The mission of I.S. 93 is to successfully prepare all of its students for high school, college, and beyond. The atmosphere is safe, caring, and orderly. Teachers encourage students to follow the I.S. 93’s code of conduct which prioritizes respect. In 2016, the graduating class at Ridgewood middle school left a time capsule for future students to reopen in 50 years, as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of I.S. Ridgewood. To show future students what students in 2016 were learning, the items include math, science, and social studies textbooks, letters from students to themselves in the future, copies of the Ridgewood Times and other local newspapers, a yearbook from 2016, a class shirt, a graduation cap, and more.
Students receive instruction in mathematics, reading, language arts, science, and social studies. Students interested in science and technology may explore robotics or computer programming. Enrichment activities include the arts like art, drama, music, and dance. Students have the option to join a sports program such as basketball, badminton, cheerleading, soccer, volleyball, football, and handball. Currently, the soccer team plays against local middle schools throughout Queens and Brooklyn. Ollie students with high academic performance are allowed to participate on the sports teams. Students in grades 6 through 8 can join the I.S. 93Q Cheerleaders, a competitive extracurricular team that performs at neighborhood competitions and most school sporting events. The chess club meets weekly after school where students teach the game to each other.
The Dual Language program is an honors program designed to aid students to become bi-literate in Spanish and English. The learning atmosphere promotes inclusion and a love for learning languages. Through the use of technology, field trips, and group work, students are prepared to function in the global society. I had a horrible experience at this school. They’re telling my niece who is currently a student that I was a monster. My niece knows what was actually going on behind the scenes so how dare they try to change the narrative and destroy my character. I was being bullied and they did nothing!

The staff and teachers should be trained as different students with different disabilities or impairment arrives. Also, with kids that have not been diagnosed they should be trained to speak with their parents about it. I don’t understand how a kid can say that they felt mistreated by a certain teac...

Great im in 8th grade and I love all the teachers it’s an amazing experience and there’s so much fun activities such as many school dances throughout the year and prom but we’re focused on our studies and take regions and majority pass which helps us graduate 1 year earlier when we’re in high school
