GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The school is fairly new and quite large for the area. Its located in one of the safest towns in Iowa and its overall very good at academic readiness.

overall I have enjoyed my time at IHS. However, my senior year has been interrupted by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. I have been greatly disappointed that I have had to convert to online school and I haven't been able to attend school with my peers. My school has done a very good job adjusting to the circumstances and I feel my teachers have made a great effort to help me in all ways.

My experience in high school was pleasant. I tried the whole having a bunch of friends thing but I realized I only needed to have one good friend, and I found that. I enjoyed going to school but I wish that Independence had more opportunities for the students to give feedback that would actually effected how the school operated. I feel that the students should be consulted more because they are essentially the whole reason why the school is there in the first place.

We've enjoyed our time here in this community. Very welcoming and our children have made great memories at their school!
