Founded in 1953, St. Richard Catholic School is under the Catholic Diocese of Jackson; however, the school, bounded by Holly Drive, Lynwood Drive, St. Richard Drive and Manhattan Drive, is open to all students regardless of their religious affiliations.
The 250 students that make up the school’s population are distributed across pre-kindergarten through third and sixth grades. The faith-based school utilizes an individualized instructional approach. While covering most subjects, it has an added focus on arts, foreign languages, music, drama, dance, library, media skills and more. The school offers programs including speech and language therapy as well as Dyslexia therapy, ensuring that each and every pupil is provided with a teaching style that fits their specific way of learning.
Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Mississippi Department of Education, the student-to-teacher ratio at St. Richard Catholic School is 15-to-1, affording each student adequate attention and efficient support. This dedicated faculty place a focus on academic excellence, character development and faith formation. Student athletic involvement is also encouraged, and various teams are offered including basketball, cheerleading, the 100-mile club, volleyball and football.

This school wants each and every student to fit into the same mold, and if they don't fit the mold too bad. The marketing ploy of having an arts based "whole schools" curriculum is just that - a stroke of marketing. Most of the teachers are also parents and have a herd mentality much like a sorority. It is very unfortunate because there is a need for a good catholic and Catholic school in the Jackson area.
