Originally known as the “downtown school,” Everett School was first built in 1881. In 1923, the school was renamed Grant Elementary School in honor of Abraham Grant, an African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church Bishop who lived in Kansas City. Grant, who was friends with Booker T. Washington, was born into slavery in the mid-1800s but became a prominent figure in the AME Church during the post-Civil War era. Grant Elementary has been rebuilt and remodeled since the original 1881 construction and now sits in the southeastern corner of Downtown Kansas City, Kansas. Grant Elementary is home to just over 350 children from kindergarten to fifth grade. While Grant's testing scores overall are lower than the district's, the school has better scores in science, with a higher percentage of students scoring in the advanced placement than the district average. Grant also boasts a student-teacher ratio of 12:1, which is lower than the district average. This smaller ratio is significant as it provides an advantage for students who may benefit from more individualized help. Grant Elementary, home of the Mustangs, strives to create “a community of learners who work together to achieve success.” This esteemed institution provides a wide variety of opportunities for each and every one of its students, both academic and social.

The school needs a overhaul. Quality of education is horrible USD 500 needs to do better this is sad. I noticed a lot of the children have behavioral issues. I had to give it one star because it wouldn’t allow me to leave it blank.
