Located at 2420 Illinois Ave. in Kenner, Louisiana is the Islamic School of Greater New Orleans. The facility is headed by the Jefferson Muslim Association, which was formed in 1984 and now acts as an umbrella organization for a half-dozen different halls and the New Orleans area’s only mosque. This co-educational private school is an open-enrollment institution, so students from any background may attend.
The Islamic School has been approved by the state of Louisiana’s Board of Education, and the curriculum is based on state benchmarks and standards, individualized lesson plans and hands-on activities. It strives to educate students in a welcoming Islamic environment, to learn to love knowledge, and to become upstanding members of society. Academic achievement is expected and encouraged, and the school performs on par with other local educational institutions.
The facility serves children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, enrolls 120 students, and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1. These small classes allow the educator to focus on one-on-one time with each student to ensure the child’s understanding and mastery of each subject. The school also offers academic competition events like the multiplication bee and a social studies fair. There’s even a chess class and a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, or STEM, club, along with a variety of other extracurricular activities for children and teenagers.

It’s a safe environment. Where ever you go teaching to me is very similar. What’s most important is having your child in an environment that is safe and I know they are in good hands. We hope to see ISGNO flourish in every way.

I work for this school. It's a privilege for me that I am part of the staff. All teachers and principal strive for the best and they try their best to do what is good for our students. Please come and see the school for what it really is and don't let few bad reviews stop you from at least trying to...

I would never recommend this school. The teachers are unqualified and uncertified to even be teachers. The academics for the children, in turn, suffer, and you spend all evening teaching your child what should have already been taught during school hours. Any complaints about the school or teachers...
