Located in downtown Knoxville in the historic former headquarters of the Louisville & Nashville (L&N) Railroad, L&N STEM Academy is a Knox County public high school of about 600 students emphasizing science, technology, engineering education and math (STEM), and the arts. Founded as a magnet high school in 2011, an integrated curriculum and project-based learning are the bedrock of L&N STEM Academy. The exceptional instruction and small class size help students develop relationships with mentors, allowing these self-directed learners opportunities to maximize their education in and outside the classroom. Digital technologies, available on a 1:1 scale, ensure students have access to the communication tools they need to realize their potential as citizens of the information age. Ranked well above the state average for proficiency in English, L&N Stem Academy also scored in the top percentile for students garnering a three or above on Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. Nearly 100% of L&N students graduate, and nearly all graduates go on to college or vocational training. Home of the Gryphons, extracurriculars include team sports and clubs. And the Gryphon Global Studies program offers students at least one option for international educational travel experiences per year.

Arts program is lacking, but I have highly enjoyed my teachers. I love that we have all sorts of students from all over the county, and appreciate that. While I am not the best math students, we have a great department there.

L&N is a really good school. It is school where I was able to expand my horizons and think more on what I was going to do. I was able to also build upon skills that I had and even was able to unlock newer ones. The teachers are amazing people that are willing to help you every step of the process and seem to have that joy of teaching.

This school does extremely well at preparing students for college by creating a schedule the mimics more college like classes. Students are also often pushed to do their best and feel welcome to talk to teachers if they are struggling. Lastly, the school has great funding used to grow areas like the maker space to allow students creative freedom.

I am a student and I feel this way mainly based off my experience at STEM. Of course there are many teachers with their efforts really high however there are some math teachers that really can't teach or at least they try. Then there is a perverted Physics teacher who gives the girls opportunity to...

The STEM Academy is truly a school that stands above the rest. Teachers and students are dedicated to learning, and the school staff takes a special interest in student input. The majority of clubs and activities are student-led, and although you won't find the typical sports, the sports that are of...

Like any school it has good and the bad qualities. It is smaller than many schools in Knox County but not as much of a community as one would expect. Teacher quality is just OK, not overly impressive. Again, like anywhere, there are some really good teachers and some not so good teachers, it just de...
