Located in the desirable Sterchi Hills community in north Knoxville, Sterchi Elementary serves around 400 students between kindergarten and fifth grade. Located at 900 Oaklett Drive, Sterchi Elementary is named for James Sterchi, a prominent Knoxville businessman who owned a 300-acre dairy farm in the area in the early 1900s. The Sterchi mansion, now privately owned, still stands on nearby Dry Gap Pike.
Sterchi Elementary’s mission is to “create an environment where children are nurtured with a quality education to become lifelong learners who are responsible, productive citizens of their community.” Teachers and staff at Sterchi do this by collaborating to ensure they use best practices as they cater to the needs of each student. Each week, students at Sterchi have the opportunity to participate in art and music classes. Knox County Schools provides free transportation to and from school for elementary students who live more than a mile from their zoned school.
The one-mile radius around Sterchi Elementary is known as the Parental Responsibility Zone, meaning students in that zone are not eligible for the district’s transportation services. After completing fifth grade at Sterchi, students will move on to Gresham Middle School.

This is a small school with small classrooms and great student teacher ratios that help ensure the teacher has time to spend with each student in small groups to cater the lessons to the individual. Very disappointed in Sterchi...very disappointed. Not understanding their line of thinking as far as education. Every child is "worth it" every child deserves to participate, every child is someone.

Sterchi is a small, community school where everyone is welcome. The teachers know all the student and are vested in their education and future. The teachers at Sterchi give 100% everyday! I am being proud of the education and love my children receive here!
