GreatSchools Rating

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Laguna Beach High School is a perfect example of a diverse and artistic/creative school while still maintaining its academic prestige. I love all the opportunities and readiness it provides with students like myself; however, I would like to see some changes to creativity in themes for events such as homecoming, prom, football games, etc. to improve the student culture.

I absolutely love my high school. I can't imagine going to a better school. Our school fosters a climate of friendship and kindness, and encourages us to pursue our dreams with many resources available that I know other places don't have. All of the teachers and staff are amazing and helpful.

Laguna Beach High School is a small public school that is more like a private school. The location is incredible, its a few blocks from the wonderful beaches of downtown Laguna Beach. The sunsets from the main Football field is like no other. The commraderie of the Alumni is so wonderful and warm. We have an amazing sports program for most sports even though we are a small school we compete with most at the highest level. Our teachers are incredible and our drama program is outstanding.

The teachers do not teach an adequate curriculum and do no allow students to move ahead if they have already learned or proven they have more advanced knowledge on the subject. The school has no protection and is oblivious to bullying. The flimsy school board wants students to be at the same level a...

Accountability from staff is needed and special education is very much in need of developing to keep from students having to attend a school outside the district to fulfill their needs.

Here is the truth as I see it. Most parents feel at ease reading high ratings based on a very rudimentary collection of data but fail to look more critically at the curriculum, culture and mission. It would be very cavalier to say Laguna Beach HS is a country club but my observation has been that pa...

Bottom line: This school with all its money and beauty is horrible unless you are looking to be unsuccess in anything but sports or arts. There is absolutely no encouragement what so ever to be strong in academics. The lack of encouragement causes the students in this school to simply not care eithe...
