Hayes Elementary is home to around 270 students in pre-K through fifth grade. Located in southwest Lakewood, Hayes is part of the Lakewood City School District. The administrators, teachers and staff at Hayes create an educational environment that encourages academic and social development. The fifth grade and kindergarten picnic is one example of how the school fosters connections across its community. On the picnic day, students work together to create a collaborative art project, play field games and design chalk art drawings.

Students at Hayes get to enjoy a book vending machine. They earn tokens from teachers and staff and can use them to select their books. The machine is stocked with plenty of options, with picture books for kids just learning to read and chapter books for older students.
