Named for long-time Alief farmer, school board member and overall Alief Independent School District supporter Frank Liestman, Liestman Elementary School educates almost 800 pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students. As the school’s mascot is a chipmunk, their cheeky motto is, “It’s a chipmunk thing!”
Students at Liestman enjoy CIA, which stands for Children Interacting Afterschool. Although most CIA programs only accept children from first grade on up, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students at Liestman can also join in the fun.
CIA provides educational, enrichment and recreational activities to further students' social, academic and physical development. It starts with a relaxed snack time where students can unwind from the school day and chat with classmates. From there, students participate in supervised homework help and a revolving slate of fun, hands-on enrichment activities.
On the academic side, Liestman students are making above-average strides from where they were in previous years. The school boasts a student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to receive individualized assistance if needed.

Excellent school, great teachers that care and get involved with the students needs, the principal is wonderful and the staff in general, we are very happy with this school.
