Great school, really hard. That's about it. I met friends I'll keep for life and learned more than I would've anywhere else, but I also went through some of the darkest moments in my life. Not for everyone.

I loved my experience at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics. I applied pretty late into my eighth-grade year and got in. That sparked the experiences that I've been lucky enough to have over the past four years. I was able to participate in almost every aspect of the school immediately including being able to sit in on other classes that weren't open to me yet. I tried my best to make the most of it by applying myself to my studies making it all the way to multivariable calculus while also keeping up with sports and other activities I did with my free time. The school itself has a wonderful staff that encourages you to do your best while also being there for you if you're having a hard time. They help prepare you for the experiences of college with their rigorous courses while still remaining personal like most highschool classes should be. The inclusion of a dorm aspect helped create stronger bonds with those around you allowing you to see them and grow with them.

At MSSM the academics are demanding but if your willing to put in effort and communicate well with your teachers, good grades are achievable.

MSSM is an exceptional educational opportunity for young scholars. There are 15 other State-mandated residential schools nationwide similar to MSSM, and they all share a similar educational philosophy and reputation for excellence. Our child attends MSSM and loves it, and we have found the teachers,...

I am a currently a Freshman at this school (class of 2020). This year has been my best school experience thus far. I have made so many new friends and met some amazing people who are just like me. The classes are EXTREMELY rigorous. Near the beginning of the year, I had a lot of issues with adjustin...

MSSM is in a turmoil. Residential life staff are on a power trip and punitive, and are not qualified. Some of the faculty are amazing. Many are below average and also have a punitive attitude toward the students. The kids form a very supportive community, and my child loves it there for that reason....

In addition to excellent academics at a level not found in public schools, the residential environment allows students to interact and develop creative ideas outside the classroom setting. Three of my children went there. The experience shaped them for life. Two are finishing PhDs and one is undergr...
