Kennedy Montessori Elementary School (KMES) is a K-5 elementary public school in the Jefferson County Public Schools district. KMES is located in the Park Duvalle neighborhood close to the Russell Lee park and the Southwick Community Center.
KMES is a magnet Montessori school for the district. It is a Title-I school and offers free lunch to all students due to its serving a high percentage of Free and Reduced Lunch eligible students. The School serves approximately 440 students, the majority are identified as African American. Students at KMES take the Kennedy Cubs pledge to “I am a member of the Kennedy CUBS Community. This means I am: Challenging myself to learn and grow every day.Using my body and materials appropriately. Being a good listener and contributor. Showing respect to all through my words and actions.”
KMES offers a very low teacher to student ratio of 13 students for every teacher. KMES has a diverse offering of extracurricular programs like sports, academic team, Girls Who Code, a gardening club, and many more.
KMES is an Accelerated Improvement School which provides extra support for schools in the bottom 5% of achievement on state testing. 50% of students received a novice on the 2021 math standardized test, while 20.8% received a proficient score. In reading, 50.7% received a novice, and 19% received a proficient.
