Many students don’t fit the mold of traditional classrooms, or even special education programs. Academy of St. Louis is designed to fill the gap for these children.
Serving students with cognitive learning abilities in grades K-12, Academy of St. Louis specializes in students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD, and developmental delays. Faculty and staff provide each student with individualized curriculum to help them reach their highest potential. Thorough reviews of records, psychological testing, and pretesting of academic skills allow staff to group students according to their abilities – not just age – for instruction. Modifications are made to make each student successful.
This approach allows students to move at their own pace, moving slowly in difficult subjects, and accelerating in their areas of strength. Success is achieved through experiential learning, individual academic curriculum, and a 3:1 student to teacher ratio.
Beyond academics, Academy of St. Louis teaches life skills, social etiquette, and communication skills to help each student learn how to form relationships. Community service opportunities reinforce this learning and instill values of service and generosity in each student. Underscoring all of these efforts is a foundation of Catholic faith.
Complementing the fully accredited academic program is an assortment of extra-curricular activities. Clubs include speech, debate, environmental club, and running club.
Some students attend Academy of St. Louis until they attain specific goals, then transition to other general education settings. For those who graduate from the academy, the school helps students transition to higher education, trade school, or gainful employment opportunities.
