Hickory Hills Elementary School is a public school serving children from kindergarten through fifth grade in the Marietta area. While the school does provide course study in reading, English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, the school seeks to maximize the children’s learning experience with the implementation of the Workshop Model and Lucy Calkins Units of Study. Students also receive 50 minute daily Specials instruction in the areas of physical education, as well as art, music, dance, and drama, provided in the school’s Art Wing. These specialized courses help to create Hickory Hills’ “unique learning environment, where critical and creative thinking skills are supported through arts integration.” The school also provides special student services such as Gifted courses, special education classes, and ESOL. Students also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, such as the Dragon Players, the schools drama club, which utilizes the school’s fully-equipped performing stage. In addition to the children’s education, the school also pours into the teachers, providing teachers with opportunities for professional development throughout the school year. The school also provides a parent resource room. Hickory Hills Elementary provides students, teachers, and parents with the tools and resources to help students in the Southwest Marietta neighborhood to excel academically and to grow personally.

We choice into Marietta City Schools, as we live in Cherokee County. Choosing Hickory Hills was the greatest choice we could have made, and I have no regrets. My daughter has a passion for reading and has loved the emphasis put on reading groups. The 10:1 ratio for reading groups has only increased...

My students love going to Hickory Hills. They are able to participate in a wide variety of activities to support their development academically as well as socially and emotionally. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure each student feels seen, heard, and is valued.

We are so fortunate that our sons attend Hickory Hills. The teachers and leadership at the school are incredible. Watching the Science of Reading in action has also been an impressive part of their learning experience.
