Shenandoah Middle School is a public sixth-grade through eighth-grade middle school located in Miami, Florida. It serves approximately 1,200 students and has a student-teacher ratio of 20-to-1. The school is part of the Miami-Dade County Schools System. Shenandoah first opened its doors in 1926 in a three-story building that was constructed to house around 700 students. The school features an academic team that sets the standards and expectations for student achievement as well as appropriate behavior. This team focuses on inclusivity by having teachers meet weekly to discuss students' progress and holding conferences with students, parents and guardians to figure out the best way to approach a student’s learning. The Magnet Program is centered around object-based learning and allows students to study objects and improve their critical thinking skills. These skills include understanding the similarities and differences in objects, grouping similar things, giving detailed descriptions, making predictions and summarizing all of the information they were able to gather. Shenandoah also implements Visual Thinking Strategies also known as VTS. VTS is a strategy in which students think independently about a work of art and engage in open-ended discussions using critical thinking skills. It is a group problem-solving method that gives students the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions with their peers.

In my opinion, it's an amazing school, great teachers, and great involvement. The teachers are great and they really help with your grades they always try to give you the help that you need and try to get parents involved for them to help at home. The administration is also very good, they focus a lot on what the students have to say. The clubs and acitities are really good as well, they're super fun.

I had a substitute teacher tell the whole class to go back to where we came from because we wouldn't stand up for the pledge of allegiance. Also, you get a think tank (detention) for absolutely anything. And one of the security guards won't let you explain anything. School is supposed to educate us,...

My child is a straight A+ student but fails in math usually ends up with a C- but with this so called 'Magnet education' that is offered towards her is not helping with my child's education. she now has a F and completes all her work. One day at a gathering with her friends they all told me how the...
