With a proven commitment to excellence, the J.B. Watkins Elementary School staff encourages its students to become lifelong learners and prepares them to live in an ever-changing world. Serving prekindergarten through fifth grade, Watkins Elementary has been recognized as one of the Governor’s VIP Schools of Excellence. It is also a two-time winner of the Program of Excellence Award from the Virginia Technology Education Association. Watkins Elementary helps students shine through instructional technology and project-based learning. Students receive a well-rounded education, with opportunities to learn Mandarin or benefit from the Children’s Engineering and Design Technology program. Physical education helps students stay active and build healthy habits. This school has various activities throughout the year, including two annual book fairs, a field day and a pumpkin lighting ceremony. Each class decorates a pumpkin in October, and the whole school comes together to watch them light up. This collaboration between creativity and the school community is part of what makes J.B. Watkins Elementary a high-performing Chesterfield County school.

I am a senior in high school and I started my education at J.B Watkins which was the best elementary school expierence ever. I have the best memories from that school it is so fun and engaging. I wish I was still at that school it was the best. They also had really good lunches!

JB Watkins is an excellent school. We moved here specifically so our kids could attend Watkins. While we were concerned about the overcrowding, I have to say that I am impressed with how the administration and teachers handle it.
