South is very a very good school although there are some flaws. In comparison to other schools it feel like the teachers are always holding your hand and not letting you do much on you own. I do feel south could have been better if there was a little more freedom. The most useless class I feel is library and computer, after 2nd grade and you know how to read, checkout, log in and stay safe online it all feels kind of useless. Overall its a great school, although the diversity is bad its almost all white. This review is from a current 6th grader.

Having moved to South School when our daughter was in 1st grade, we have the experience at another local school (in a neighboring town) to compare to. I think the education is on par - the reality is they teach according to the CORE curriculum standards. If you want a more challenging/diverse curriculum you won't get it from any of the CT public schools until they abandon the CORE curriculum.

The school keeps parents up to date as to what is happening in the school and where our child is academically.

I agree with a lot of the comments. High rankings are because so much of the 2nd half of the year is devoted to prep for std testing & they know how to work it. To compare to private schools is ridiculous. There is definite backlash if you complain, including segregating the child who is bullied rat...
