Across from the lush, 123-acre Edgewood Park is the Edgewood Creative Thinking Through STEAM Magnet School for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. The school opened in 1911 and was expanded in 1999 to double the classroom space while integrating its appearance with the surrounding Westville neighborhood. With approximately 450 students, this school employs about 50 staff members and offers a variety of enrichment and after-school programs. Although considered a Choice School through the Connecticut School Choice Program, priority registration is given to students living in the neighborhood. Edgewood prides itself on being a place where children can explore individual creativity through STEAM, or Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Course offerings such as Visual Arts, Dance, Jazz Band, Chorus, Spanish, Coding, Service Learning, Dramatic Arts and Digital Media Storytelling expose students to many different subjects to build creative and academic confidence. In addition, there are many extracurricular clubs and events, including Theater Workshops and the Radio Station EDGE. An active Parent-Teacher Organization delivers news on current activity and participation through its website. The school also maintains a social media presence where parents can follow various projects and events online. There are also accredited extracurricular programs on a sliding scale to give working parents peace of mind and convenience. The school’s motto is “Mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow.” They consistently demonstrate that philosophy by embracing and nurturing students, parents, staff and community members.

Edgewood has a very diverse and involved community. Teachers and administrators care about the students and work hard with the very limited resources that come with a city school. The family atmosphere is priceless, giving it massive potential if more funding was available for academic support and t...

Edgewood cares so much about their students! Our son had been at a well respected private school in 1st grade, but when we discovered he had some emotional and mental health challenges, the cut him loose. We returned to Edgewood, where he'd gone for K, and the school provided more than a dozen resou...

I totally regret putting my son in this school! I feel like I've done more than his teacher at this school. I don't know if it's the school or just his teacher but I had to work with him one on one so he wouldn't fall behind. The class/homework was not challenging enough. If you want your child to e...
