Academy of the Sacred Heart, located in a stunning Greek Revival mansion on St. Charles Avenue in Uptown New Orleans, was founded in 1867. Its stately wrought iron arch serves as a gateway not only to a historical landmark, but also to a rigorous academic program that’s strong in the humanities and math, science and technology.
The school’s comprehensive curriculum addresses necessary skills at each grade level, and it offers 18 Advanced Placement on-site and online courses. The all-girls, Catholic independent school serves pre-K through 12th grade.
Beyond its historic original building and earlier additions, Academy of the Sacred Heart has added a modern math and science wing, a second campus for lower grades, and a new gym and fine arts center.
Home of the Cardinals, Academy of the Sacred Heart holds 100 titles in cross country, golf, track and field, tennis, volleyball, and soccer. It also offers many arts-related programs and clubs, including painting, choir, dance, theater, literature, and digital illustrating. The school states that it not only provides the tools to succeed in each young woman’s career path, but also the tools needed to foster personal growth, faith and values, and social awareness.

I loved this school. I felt safe and nurtured. I truly thrived, and I cannot ask for anything more than that. Academics are appropriate and rigorous.

I love Sacred Heart but I would be lying if I said it was for everybody. Most of the people who attend my school are very wealthy which could be isolating for somebody who does not have that kind of money. However, it is extremely fun and the girls there are funny and will make you feel welcome. Most of the teachers, especially in the high school, want to see you succeed. They are very focused on sustainability and do a great job of balancing traditions with embracing the future.
