The name of PS 20 Anna Silver Elementary School honors the immigrant history of the Lower East Side. Anna Silver, a Romanian immigrant and neighborhood resident, was the mother of Charles H. Silver, the president of the New York City Board of Education when the school building was erected in 1963. Graduates from the original PS 20 include the former U.S. Senator from New York, Jacob K. Javits, as well as actors Paul Muni and Edgar G. Robinson. This Lower East Side public school enrolls students in prekindergarten through fifth grade, with a Common Core curriculum where children become familiar with various learning styles and environments, ranging from mini-lessons, partner collaboration and small group work to regular classroom instruction. Reading and writing courses follow the guidelines of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, while science classes are guided by the Amplify Science elementary and middle school curriculum, and lessons in social studies utilize the Passport to Social Studies program. In addition to their regular coursework, students receive weekly instruction from specialist teachers in art, music, science, technology, physical education and library science. Clubs are also an element of the enrichment initiatives at PS 20, and include foreign language and culture club, gardening club, recycling club, science club, technology club and yoga.

From the principals, the office staff, and teachers all are outstanding. They all have gone above and beyond not only for my family also for others. The attention that is paid not only for students, care and concern for the community in a whole.

The assistant principal and principal are just a big joke. Very rude women. Get people that are professional and empathetic.
