Beit Rabban

Private Pre-K, Elementary, Middle School | Grade Pre-K-5
270 W 89th St,  New York, NY
4.4
Beit Rabban offers lessons to a coeducational student body. Approximately 100 children from pre-kindergarten through Grade 8 attend the school, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 5-1. As a non-denominational institution, Beit Rabban embraces the reform, conservative and traditional affiliations of Judaism. First opened as an early childhood center in 1991, the school is now a preschool, elementary, and middle school. Faculty members teach subjects in the arts and sciences, Torah and humanities, in both English and Hebrew. Lessons are often conducted via the principle of chavrusa, or paired learning. Coursework is hands-on and aligned with age-specific education. Preschoolers learn about proportions and fractions during a bread-making session; middle schoolers take on the subject of evolution in a module co-led by science and humanities teachers. In social studies, a class might interview a visiting city council member to understand the workings of government better. Enrichment programs include world dance, cartooning, movement and yoga, robotics, arts and crafts, and chess, with older students offered basketball, digital design and Ultimate Frisbee.

I feel lucky to have discovered this school for my children. The teachers and administration truly know my kids' individual strengths and areas of support. I love the values of this place, the deeply engaged learning, and that my kids (10 and 8) are still excited to go to school every day.

Tremendously warm and caring, providing rigorous intellectual learning in Judaic and secular studies. Small-group learning, child-centered, amazing Hebrew language instruction. Awesome community.
