As a New York public school that serves grades six through 12, Quest to Learn breaks the boundaries of the traditional learning style. Using game-based learning, students at this school use an innovative educational method that was developed by the Institute of Play. Teachers at Quest work within a team along with professional game designers and curriculum builders, creating educational material that meets New York State standards and using custom-designed games to help meet learning goals. Students learn teamwork, the value of learning from failure and valuable work ethics, such as persistence. For example, ninth-grade students in biology will spend a year working in a fictional biotech company with assignments to clone dinosaurs and create ecosystems for them. This method helps them learn about genetics, biology and ecology. Roleplaying as scientists, doctors, detectives and designers while also using Storyweavers help teach students fundamental subjects while also having fun. Sports programs are available including football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, soccer, volleyball and more. Students can also enjoy a variety of after-school activities like theatre, hip-hop poetry, Lego robotics and parkour to name a few. Quest to Learn is in Chelsea and is surrounded by plenty of parks and playgrounds, like the 18th Street basketball courts and Dr. Gertrude B. Kelly playground.

as a senior in middle school, i cant say im satisfied with this school. fights everywhere almost everyday, the classrooms are left dirty since we share it with the highs choolers, the staircases smell like weed, most of the teachers are rude af, they gave us yonder pouches but its not even us who use our phones, its the teachers. they lie about our grades half of the time and dont even try. theres even severe fights that put us in lockdowns. overall i give this school a low grade, come if you want the basic middle school experience but if you want your child to exceed then bring them elsewhere.

I liked all the people I got to knew over the years and the teachers were really nice but the courses need to be more challenging.

My experience has been great. All the extracurriculars are so great smooth and offer many different kinds of things. My only complaint is the diversity most of the people there are white. And I believe that there should be an equal amount of every race.

This is a safe campus. Teachers are creative, inspiring and very responsible, creating a harmonic learning environment for the kids to explore their potentials. My son is doing well here, getting well with the peers and mentors. His happiness, confidence and love to the school are the best evidence....
