Success Academy Charter School at Union Square was founded in 2013 and is one of a growing network of Success Academy schools modeled after the flagship school in Harlem. The school’s diverse student body and rich curriculum, with daily exposure to the arts and sciences, makes it an outstanding choice for students in the Gramercy Park neighborhood.
Success Academy Union Square has done a good job of retaining teachers and has various options for children with special needs and learning differences. Children at the Union Square school enter the impressive, oak-paneled lobby of the Washington Irving Campus, which houses five small high schools and is always bursting with energy. The school lacks a playground, so for recess children are escorted to nearby parks, except for kindergartners who have their own on-campus playroom.
Success Academy is committed to fostering an exciting environment where kids can deepen their curiosity and grow into confident, self-determined, young adults. Teachers limit direct instruction, instead fostering students’ independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
The school’s rich curriculum includes daily science experiments, exposure to the arts, a well-rounded approach to math and STEM subjects and frequent class trips. Electives include art, sports, chess, music and dance. The school sparks each child’s talents and fosters an enthusiasm for learning at the core of everything they do.

I had to take my kids away from this corrosive environment. The principal herself told me I should be satisfied with my son's poor F&P reading score because, "He passed." We are very happy with SAUS. Everything about the school, the teaching, and the curriculum has exceeded our expectations.
